iTap in the Gumbo Flats*

500-beer bar coming to Chesterfield Valley | Off the Menu | STLtoday:

"Just got a very interesting note from the PR person for Brad Lobdell, who intends to open a bar called the International Tap House at the corner of Edison and Long roads in the Chesterfield Valley by the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

Some tidbits about the place:
# Serves no food, but patrons can order from three other menus from nearby restaurants.
# Serves every beer in its proper glass (flute, tulip, pint, mug, pilsner, etc.)
# Non-smoking.
# Drink-in or carryout.
# 40 of the 500 beers are on draught.
# The place will go by iTap for short.

More as I learn it."

Oh, now that doesn't sound obnoxious AT ALL.

EDIT July 19th, 2009: Hey, if you live in Chesterfield, you should of course go to iTap! Business is good when business is business. I just wish I could hear about businesses like these opening up in lovely, walk-to-it-able downtown St. Louis neighborhoods. That's all.

Come on, you know you wanna hang at iTap. The "i" is for "international" baby, b/c that is chesterfield. DIVERSITY. That european feeling we all seek. Also, all the iBeer will be in it's own iGlass -- just like in iEurope! yes!

It will be totally fun and not at all torture. I am going there EVERY WEEKEND.

Well now that you put it that way I can't wait. I want to go now!

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in our new bar. We are going to have 500 bottles and 40 beers on tap. We won't have a kitchen but we have agreements with local restaurants to deliver food. We are also non-smoking.

Thanks Again,

Hi Brad! Best of luck with the iTap, I actually knew all of that about non smoking and food and whatnot. Read it in Off the Menu (and in my post...but did YOU read my post?).

Wish you'd open in the city. Chesterfield is soooo 2002.

All snarkiness aside, iTap's a little far out in Gumbo for me, but I guess for folks in Chesterfield, its in the neighborhood!

I caught your first post. So you don't see Chesterfield as melting pot??? ;)

Hopefully you will be able to make the journey at least one to check it out. If for nothing else it will be worth the trip simply because there is nothing like it in the St. Louis area.

Geez, you don't go west of Brentwood and Chesterfield is 2002??? No wonder St. Louis has never been able to keep up with other cities. Everyone here is so closed minded and bases everything on whether or not they actually have to cross a river. If you're truly looking for diversity like you said, St. Louis is not the place to find it.

I live in Chicago...maybe you should consider moving. Each town has its pros and cons. St. Louis is what it is...if you're looking for something more, you're not going to find it here. A beer bar like this is GREATLY needed here!

I personally have plenty of places to get beer that I like quite close to my house. The idea of driving 45+ minutes to go drink beer is a little silly to me.

The same sort of ideas can pretty much be said about most people in any town. Studies have been done that people really don't go beyond a certain distance from their home for most anything.

Every city is snobby about its city center. Doesn't have anything to do with anything.

Have fun in the gumbo flats, anonymous, even though I'm kinda wondering if you've ever even BEEN to chesterfield and what exactly embracing rich suburbs that are an hour away from the urban center would have to do with "keeping up with other cities."

If that's what we've gotta to do keep up, may st. louis forever be backwards.

Fair enough, anonymous.

I will give it a chance, to be fair, next time I'm in the neighborhood.
